More specifically, while equipping the F-150 with the lauded EcoBoost engine was a good choice, the fact that EcoBoost-equipped Ford F-150 models sold more than 100,000 units in 2011. If this doesn't prove that the American automaker made a wise choice, we don't know what will.

Of course, that number only becomes more impressive when you learn that EcoBoost models only account for 40 percent of all F-150 sales. That means that Ford didn't just meet its 100,000 vehicle projection; it shattered it!

With the introduction of EcoBoost engine in the F-150, Ford made another critical choice: Ending production of the long-celebrated Ranger. The reason to discontinue the small truck extends from the fact that the new EcoBoost engine puts the larger F-150 on par with it in terms of efficiency, and the fact that Ford plans further develop the efficiency of its larger truck lineup.
