Ford Truck Trends in 2011

With all of the excitement from our previous post so strong, we here at Freedom Ford forgot to include one essential detail that's sure to excite Ford truck enthusiasts everywhere. 2011 was a topnotch year for Ford, but one model surpassed all others in terms of sales, quality, and reviews from critics. We are, of course, talking about the Motor Trend Truck of the Year?, the Ford F-150.

So what did we forget to say about the incredible Ford truck? It's sales numbers, that's what. More specifically, while equipping the F-150 with the lauded EcoBoost engine was a good choice, the fact that EcoBoost-equipped Ford F-150 models sold more than 100,000 units in 2011. If this doesn't prove that the American automaker made a wise choice, we don't know what will.

Of course, that number only becomes more impressive when you learn that EcoBoost models only account for 40 percent of all F-150 sales. That means that Ford didn't just meet its 100,000 vehicle projection; it shattered it!

With the introduction of EcoBoost engine in the F-150, Ford made another critical choice: Ending production of the long-celebrated Ranger. The reason to discontinue the small truck extends from the fact that the new EcoBoost engine puts the larger F-150 on par with it in terms of efficiency, and the fact that Ford plans further develop the efficiency of its larger truck lineup.
