The 2012 Ford Escape has barely arrived here at Freedom Ford, and already the internet is buzzing with rumors about what will be included in next year's 2013 model. The 2012 Escape is an incredible vehicle that we're sure everyone will find something they can love in, but Ford also knows that how the Escape is created is every bit as important as what is created, which is what we're going to focus our attention on today.
To be more precise, the 2013 Ford Escape is now set to feature durable carpeting made from recycles plastic bottles. Ford is all about reducing, reusing, and recycling, and this latest production effort proves it. Each set of carpeting in a 2013 Ford Escape is expected to be made out of 25 20-oz bottles, and over the lifetimes of its production that adds up to a lot of plastic saved from wasting away in a landfill.
In more exact terms, it actually adds up to around four-million bottles saved in total! This number could go up too, as Ford is quickly learning that the more bottles are used in creating these carpets, the more durable and long-lasting they become. According to Laura Sinclair, a materials engineer at Ford, "The polyester fibers created from pop bottles make up a nonwoven carpet material...you have more fibers running on each other?that helps reduce wear."1
